A village salon done properly
The Duo is a small, independent hair and beauty salon in the village of Westfield, in the parish of Whinburgh and Westfield — about two miles south of Dereham in mid-Norfolk, not far from Yaxham, Garvestone and Whinburgh.
We're a small team, so you are never handed from one stylist to another. The same pair of hands looks after you from greeting to goodbye — which also means we get to know your hair — and you — properly over time.
Most of our customers come from the villages around Dereham — Westfield itself, Whinburgh, Yaxham, Garvestone, Shipdham and Dereham — and we are grateful every time you recommend us on.
We include a consultation with every appointment that needs one, explain exactly what the price will be before we start, and would rather be honest than do something to your hair that won't hold up at home.
Who you'll see in the chair
Two of us, and that's the whole team — which is exactly how we like it. The illustrations are a temporary stand-in while the site awaits real photographs of the two stylists.
Sophie
Sophie is our cutting and colour lead — highlights, balayage and the big restyles. She has been cutting and colouring hair for more than a decade, trained in foils and corrective colour, and is at her happiest talking you through what your hair will actually do at home, not just what it could look like straight from the chair.
Kate
Kate looks after the styling and treatments side of things — blow-dries, up-dos for weddings and parties, and the deep conditioning and bond-building treatments that keep coloured or heat-styled hair in good condition. She's quick at putting you at ease, honest about what will and won't work for your routine, and very good at untangling what a photo on your phone really means for your hair.
Honest, hygienic and unhurried
You don't need to apologise for your hair — we've seen everything before, and we cut what's in front of us, not what's on a mood board.
- A quick consultation is included with every appointment that needs one — no obligation, no pressure.
- Colour patch tests at least 48 hours before a first colour booking (it's also our insurer's requirement).
- Fresh gown, clean chair, disinfected tools and a clean, ventilated salon — every time.
- We'll tell you exactly what the price will be before we start, including any likely extra for hair length or thickness.
- We will be honest if the look you have in mind genuinely won't work on your hair or day to day — and suggest what will.
